PLATT CHURCH OF ENGLAND PRIMARY SCHOOL

NEWSLETTER MARCH 2010

GOING FOR GOLD AWARDS: Please see the reception area where recent awards are displayed.

NEWS FROM MRS NETTI

Many thanks for your support in raising funds for Haiti. So far we have raised approximately £700! May I ask that all sponsor money is brought into school as soon as possible. Thank you.

Mothering Sunday 14th March - there will be a special service at St Mary's Platt when 'Harry and his friends' (large size puppets) will be in Church to take the place of the Sermon. This is also a Parade Service for the Scouts, Guides, Cubs, Brownies, Beavers and Rainbows. The traditional posies of flowers will be given to children to give to their mothers. It is usually a lovely service and much enjoyed!
There will also be a Good Friday Club, on April 2, which will take place in the Garden Room attached to the Church for children aged 4 and over. It starts at 9.15am, with lots of things to do, including making Hot Cross buns! It finishes with a short Good Friday Service at 11.00am and then coffee and more hot cross buns at 11.30am! A donation of one pound per family for the club to help with the expenses is requested.

The 'Going For Gold' assemblies have been well received and the next one will be held on Monday, 29th March for awards that were nominated between 26th February and 19th March; all parents and relatives very welcome. The hall will be open to parents from 2.45pm.

Well done to all our sports teams who are currently attending various inter-schools sports activities. I am delighted at the effort put into the games by the participating children. Thank you also to staff and parents who are involved in these events.

Congratulations to Gary Ashley who has been selected as Sports Personality of the Year by the Courier Newspaper Group. Mrs Ashley would like to thank everyone who supported Gary.

ECO and Healthy School news - back in November we distributed a questionnaire for those residents in the village of St Mary's Platt concerning litter and the responses are attached. We hope to have these published on the school website and in the Village News. We have also passed the results on to other interested parties and would hope that the Parish and Local Council may wish to comment.

Reminders, please: children should be at school by 8.50am each morning so that registration can be taken and the lesson is ready to begin, without interruption by late comers. Children who arrive late to school generally do not begin the day in a calm and settled manner which is not helpful to their learning.

The water bottles, kindly supplied by the PTA, should be taken home each afternoon to be washed out and refilled with fresh water.

For safety reasons it is important that the ramp is not to be used for collecting children at the end of the school day. Please ensure that when dropping off children on the ramp, at the beginning of the school day, you move off as quickly (and safely) as possible to avoid a queue of cars blocking the main road.

We have a large cardboard box in the corridor which will accept various items for recycling - laser toner cartridges, inkjet cartridges and mobile phones. This will not only raise funds for school but also help with our ECO targets. Thank you.

We are collecting the following vouchers/tokens: Sainsbury Active Kids, Flora Cooking for Schools (which can be registered online or please hand in at the office), Tesco (please look out for the Daily Mirror Triple Value Voucher Offer) and Nestle Box Tops - the collection boxes are just inside the back entrance door. Used stamps are also requested.

Parking The Blue Anchor continues to offer us parking space for the beginning and end of the school day and I strongly recommend parents to use this area. Should you make use of this parking The Blue Anchor has requested that the gate into their beer garden is closed behind you. Please avoid parking in Pine View, Platt Common and at the entrance to Grange Road.
