SCHOOL DINNERS

Dear Parents,

The dinner menus can be viewed on this website.
The previous arrangements with regard to the lunches have had to be amended in line with the KCC School Feast initiative. As a result the menus will run for a three week cycle and be changed approximately every six weeks. Regrettably there has been a price increase and a lunch now costs £2.10.

One meal per week £12.60
Two meals per week £25.20
Three meals per week £37.80
Four meals per weeks £50.40
Lunch every day £63.00

It is important that the correct number of meals and the payment is received by the requested date. Day-to-day changes cause a significant problem for the Wrotham School kitchen, who provide our tasty dinners on a non-profit making basis. Your assistance in getting the orders through to our office promptly and correctly is essential.

Please could you choose the days you require and circle either the vegetarian or meat option on the menu and enclose the correct payment. A SEPARATE ORDER MUST BE MADE FOR EACH CHILD; PLEASE DO NOT PUT SIBLINGS ON THE SAME MENU ORDER FORM.

PLEASE NOTE: DINNERS NOW COST £2.10 PER DAY. (cheques made payable to Platt Primary School please or cash).

If your child is absent from school please speak to the office regarding refund.

If you require a photocopy of your order then please tick the box on the first sheet of the menu.

Children receiving free school meals will continue unless otherwise informed by the parent.

Kind regards,

Helen Netti
Headteacher

NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 2010

NEWS FROM MRS NETTI

With the current uncertainty with the weather the 'Telephone Tree' will be used should the school have to close. May I ask that you check you are included upon the list. If the weather is bad but the school remains open I ask that you send your child into school with a packed lunch as Wrotham School may not be open; there will be food made available for pupils receiving free school lunches. Any school lunches ordered but lost due to inclement weather can be deducted from your next order.

The 'Going For Gold' assemblies have been well received and the next one will be held on Monday, 1st March for awards that were nominated between 22nd January and 12th February; all parents and relatives very welcome. The hall will be open to parents from 2.45pm.

School Profile For more information on the school's strength and areas for development please visit the School Profile on the Directgov website.

Breakfast club the Breakfast Club is now open Tuesday to Friday inclusive. £3 per session which runs from 8am to 8.45am and includes a healthy breakfast for the children. Places are available. Please contact Mrs Claire Barnes 07742 112228.

ECO and Healthy School news As you may be aware this year one of our targets is to become recognised as a Fairtrade School. To get us off the starting blocks we need to capture a 'before' picture of our school. Accompanying this newsletter is a questionnaire for parents. The children will be completing a similar class questionnaire. I would be grateful if you could take the time to complete this questionnaire and return it to the school office by Friday 12th February. Jacob Baker and Imogen Mearns are our special Fairtrade representatives. They will be presenting a special school assembly later in the month.

Over Christmas several trees around the school have had a 'hair cut'! We now have a huge log pile covering the wild flower garden! We are very happy for any parents who can use logs to collect them from school. Please be aware that the logs are in long lengths. If you would be interested please let the school know.

Reminders, please Children should be at school by 8.50am each morning so that registration can be taken and the lesson is ready to begin, without interruption by late comers. Children who arrive late to school generally do not begin the day in a calm and settled manner which is not helpful to their learning.

The water bottles, kindly supplied by the PTA, should be taken home each afternoon to be washed out and refilled with fresh water.

For safety reasons it is important that the ramp is not to be used for collecting children at the end of the school day. Please ensure that when dropping off children on the ramp, at the beginning of the school day, you move off as quickly (and safely) as possible to avoid a queue of cars blocking the main road.

We have a large cardboard box in the corridor which will accept various items for recycling - laser toner cartridges, inkjet cartridges and mobile phones. This will not only raise funds for school but also help with our ECO targets. Thank you.

Parking The Blue Anchor continues to offer us parking space for the beginning and end of the school day and I strongly recommend parents to use this area. Should you make use of this parking The Blue Anchor has requested that the gate into their beer garden is closed behind you. Please avoid parking in Pine View, Platt Common and at the entrance to Grange Road. Especially avoid parking over driveways.

Vouchers please We are collecting the following vouchers/tokens:- Sainsbury Active Kids, Flora Cooking for Schools (which can be registered online or please hand in at the office) and Nestle Box Tops - the collection boxes are just inside the back entrance to the school. Used stamps are also required.
Your support is much appreciated.

NEWSLETTER JANUARY 2010

NEWS FROM MRS NETTI

I hope you all had a merry Christmas time and best wishes for a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year.

It is with great sadness I advise that Mrs Kathy Jenden (who had been an active parent as well as Chair to the PTA and Governors at our school) died just before Christmas. Our thoughts are with her family. A memorial service is to be held on Monday 1st February at 2.30pm at Platt Church.

Apologies that the school had to close this week; the decision to close the school is only made if there is insufficient staff to enable all pupils to be at school safely. The school follows clear guidelines on adult to child ratios according to age.

During the holidays several areas of the school have received attention - trees cut back in the lower playground, redecoration of the offices, new doors and decoration to the Reception and Year 1 area. A marvellous job, thank you to all those involved.

The 'Going For Gold' assemblies have been well received and the next one will be held on Monday, 25th January for awards that were nominated between 18th December and 15th January; all parents and relatives very welcome. The hall will be open to parents from 2.45pm.

You may have noticed our striking stain-glass window in the hall. Many thanks to Sally Webb for doing such a wonderful job.

Lastly, I am delighted to announce that I am expecting my first child at the end of May - my growing stomach is not due to over indulging at Christmas! The Governors, LEA and the Diocese are working together to arrange an acting head to cover my maternity leave and once this has been confirmed all parents will be informed.

Reminders, please: Children should be at school by 8.50am each morning so that registration can be taken and the lesson is ready to begin, without interruption by late comers. Children who arrive late to school generally do not begin the day in a calm and settled manner which is not helpful to their learning.

The PTA has kindly donated a 2010 calendar to each family.

NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2009

NEWS FROM MRS NETTI

The 'Going For Gold' assemblies have been well received and the next one will be held on Wednesday, 16th December for awards that were nominated between 20th November and 11th December; all parents and relatives very welcome. The hall will be open to parents from 2.50pm.

Well done to our choir, who attended the Young Voices Concert at the O2 Stadium on the 1st December - it was a great success.

You will have recently received a copy of the Attendance Policy which also details the situation with regard to lateness. Children should be at school by 8.50am each morning so that registration can be taken and the lesson is ready to begin, without interruption by late comers. Children who arrive late to school generally do not begin the day in a calm and settled manner which is not helpful to their learning.

Our Foundation and Key Stage 1 classes have requested donations of the following items: remote control toys; dressing up clothes for boys; hard hats; power toys and hand puppets. If you are able to assist with this request please speak to Miss Webb or Miss Rawlinson. Thank you.

Over the Christmas holiday and February half-term we shall be continuing with the decoration/renovation works at the school.

Thank you for your kind support (in the so many ways - donations, help on the day, etc) for the PTA Christmas Fair on the 21st November - the PTA raised over £2,000. Well done PTA.

Please show this newsletter when purchasing your tree. Stonepitts Farm is also making a donation to Demelza Hospice Care for Children for every tree sold. Stonepitts Farm, Watery Lane, Seal Chart TN15 0ER, www.stonepitts.com

Samaritan's Purse/Love in a box appeal thank you for all the shoeboxes sent in. This year we sent 35 boxes.

ECO and Healthy School news - thank you to all those who filled in our Fair Trade questionnaire at the Christmas Fair. Each class has recently taken part in the 'slim your bin' campaign. Over three weeks the children have reduced their class room waste considerably and placed more into the recycling bin.
