Year 2 Home-based Learning




Dear Parents,

In light of recent events, I have enclosed a pack for the children to complete at home.



Daily English sheets

Read Jack and the Beanstalk (

Using the short story book template, re-tell key parts of the story. (beginning,middle and end)

BIG WRITE create your own version of Jack and the Beanstalk.

Notes for parents.

Please read Jack and the Beanstalk with your children and\or use the YouTube link to access the story. They will be writing their own version. To help support you could discuss the following questions;

Does the animal have to be a cow?

Does Jack have to a boy?

Where does the beanstalk take you?

Will you meet a Giant?

Your children are very creative in their writing, please just encourage them to include capital letters, letter formation and the correct punctuation.



Daily maths worksheets.

We have been using lots of manipulatives in class to help solve maths problems. Please encourage your children to use what is available to them.

Are examples of item that can be used to represent Tens and ones, arrays and grouping. (Children can tell you all about this)

Daily comprehension workbooks

Speed sounds chart- daily sounds practice, don’t forget the rhymes to our sounds.

Vocabulary check- write a sentence using each word “Can I have my wages?”

Quick check activities- don’t forget to underline the evidence!

Questions to write about- Remember to re-read the paragraphs and find, circle or underline key words.

Vocabulary catch- choose 3 words from the text you would like to use in your writing. Use a thesaurus to find the synonym and dictionary to find the meaning.

Build a picture- Re-write the sentences. Make them more interesting!

Composition prompts- what questions could you ask Anansi? What answers might Anansi give?

Stretch- Try and write a dialogue using inverted commas.

Think about Grammar- highlight the adjectives nouns in different colours.  Underline the noun phases


Weekly spellings

Practice spellings and test on spelling on Friday (Look,cover,write)

Daily spelling shed activities (previously taught spellings)



Research your favourite plant.

Create a title page, draw a picture of your favourite plant.

Research parts of a plant. ( - a child friendly search engine by google)

Challenge- research and write about the unusual lifecycle of the fig wasp. (
